Using Rear Ligaments as a sign of Kidding

If you are standing behind your doe, looking down at the back, trace your fingers along her spine, back toward her tail. On either side of the spine, when your doe is either not bred, or is early in her gestation, you will feel ligaments on each side of the spine, near the base of the tail. Think of the area like a "peace sign". Get to know how your doe feels ahead of kidding time, so you will notice the changes that occur as kidding time draws near.

As the doe approaches kidding, in my experience within 24 hours, these ligaments begin to soften and eventually "melt" away. The area will feel like very soft jello just prior to kidding.
